Packing for your backpacking travel can be a daunting and stressful time due to the numerous items you need, but with such little space to carry them with you. Alongside your clothes, shoes and electrical devices, there are plenty of essential items that you need in order to travel comfortably. If you are a first-time traveller, some of these items may not seem obvious, but in truth, all the items listed below are essential as one of the most important aspects of backpacking is having the right gear and essentials with you. Here are some essential items for every backpacker. In this article, we will go through some of the essential items every backpacker needs for their adventure. 

Backpack: 

A backpack is of course an essential item that you should take some time to look into. There are many sizes and it all depends on how long you are travelling for. It is definitely recommended that you opt for a backpack that has a daypack attached to it as it will save you money and space when going on your day trips. 

Tent:

If you are going backpacking, you may be on a budget, or you may be going for some self-discovery. Often when people go travelling, they may not have everything planned to a T and are often wondering where they are going to spend the night. By carrying a tent around with you, you will be able to rest knowning you always have somewhere to sleep. Something lightweight and easy to set up is essential. This way you can literally go anywhere you want whilst keeping dry and comfortable. 

Sleeping bag: 

If you are planning on bringing a tent, then you will also need a sleeping bag in order to keep warm through the night. Depending on where you are going will determine what thickness you need, buy keep in mind that just because you may be travelling to a hot destination, it doesn’t mean the night times will be warm. In fact, some places can go below 0 at night. 

Watch with a durable strap: 

A reliable watch is important for keeping track of time, especially when you’re in the wilderness. Look for a watch with a durable NATO watch strap that can withstand the rigours of backpacking and won’t easily break or become damaged.

Navigation Tools:

Nobody likes getting lost, certainly not when your in the wilderness, so by ensuring your have some navigation tools on you is essential. A map and compass are the absolute basics, but if you prefer something more digital, then a GPS device is good. Mobiles can run out of signal, so bear that in mind. 

First aid kit: 

Having a first aid kit on hand is also essential. You never know when you need it and you never know what unforeseen circumstances you may find yourself in. Whether you have a small cut, or you need your prescribed medication, having a well-stocked first aid kit will help you in the most difficult times.
