There are some classic hotspots around the globe that people flock to once the weather starts to turn a little colder; the Caribbean, Hawaii and Thailand to name a few. Though these are undoubtedly some of the most beautiful places on earth, there are so many more options to choose from. Some are even surprisingly close to home. Malta is the perfect place to escape to if you’re searching for some winter sun close to home. Bugibba in particular offers glorious sunshine during the winter months, though it’s not scorching hot, it’s still pleasant enough. Definitely t-shirt weather. There’s a manmade beach in the centre of town, which has even been awarded a Blue Flag. You can enjoy a quick trip in the capital of Malta, Valletta which is just a 20 minute bus ride away. Here you can explore the wonderful culture, including the National Museum of Fine Arts and one of Europe’s oldest theatres, the Manoel Theatre.

  • Algarve, Portugal

The Algarve is Portugal’s best known holiday destination, with its beautiful sandy beaches and countless golf courses. It’s also growing in popularity for its number of wellness retreats that take place in the winter. The perfect place to relax and recharge your batteries. Alternatively, you can plan the trip yourself with a stay at one of the gorgeous Algarve villas overlooking the coast. You can take day trips to the peaceful fishing village of Carvoeiro or get ready to party in Albufeira’s wonderful nightlife.

  • Cape Town, South Africa

When most people think of a sunny holiday destination, they may consider Cape Town during summer. But it’s also a wonderful place to visit when the weather turns a little chillier. Relax on the glorious beaches and enjoy the delicious cuisine on offer. Late January to late April is regarded as the prime time to visit Cape Town for some sight-seeing adventures and relaxing beach days.

  • Phu Ouoc, Vietnam

Though it may not be your typical winter sun destination, Vietnam should be no means be disregarded. Just off the coast of Vietname is Phu Quoc, a stunning remote island that must be seen to be believed. Previously relatively quiet, there are now more regular flights to and from the UK so holidaymakers can experience it for themselves. It’s a great couple’s holiday destination with bright white sands, clear warm waters and amazing opportunities for snorkelling and diving.
