Comfort and fashion: how to get the best of both worlds

Having a sense of style is great, but keeping up with all the latest trends doesn’t have to mean you can’t also be comfortable. From finding the right cut of jeans to choosing the right underwear style, here’s everything you need to know in order to be as comfortable as you are stylish!

It all starts with the underwear

Regardless of what jacket, jeans, shoes, hat, shirt or any other clothing or accessories you wear, you will simply not be comfortable if you don’t have the right underwear.  Men’s underwear comes in all shapes and sizes these days so whether it’s briefs, trunks or hipster briefs, don’t be afraid to try different styles until you find something that feels comfortable.

Remember however that it’s not just the style and cut that could affect your comfort levels. The fabric also plays a huge part in what makes underwear comfortable. After all, it will be pressed up against your skin all day so why wouldn’t you want something that feels good? For the best chance at a good fit, try and find something with high-quality stretch fabric.

Good jeans are everything

Great jeans are a staple for any wardrobe. They can be dressed up or dressed down and they can be super comfortable. In fact, you can pretty much wear jeans to any event as long as you pair them with the right clothes and accessories. The one exception, of course, is a black tie event!

These days, men’s jeans are available in all sorts of different styles. And whilst some styles are considered on trend at different times, finding the right fit for your body type is your best chance at looking trendy. So for example, you might see skinny jeans everywhere, but if you’re a bulky, muscle-ridden man, it probably won’t suit your body type. Meanwhile, a regular fit with a wider leg, whilst not ‘all the rage’ in the fashion world at that moment, will help accentuate your toned body and will make you look good. Basically, no matter what is considered ‘in-vogue’ a pair of jeans that actually fit your body will always be the best choice.

Generally speaking, there are five types of ‘fit’ in means jeans which are skinny, slim, regular, relaxed and loose. Another factor to consider is the ‘rise’ which is the distance between the crotch to the top of the waistband. These generally come in four categories which are high rise, mid rise, low rise, and low crotch. Generally speaking, high rise jeans are great for bigger guys with a shirt tucked out and low rise jeans are great for a casual look.

Once you’ve found a good pair of jeans that fit you well, you can pretty much build your wardrobe around them. So it really is worth trying on a few different styles, cuts and sizes to make sure you find the right fit for you.

Material matters

Whether it’s shirts, t-shirts, underwear or any other item of clothing, having high-quality material is extremely important. Good quality material not only lasts longer but it can also provide a greater level of comfort. In warm countries like Australia, breathable material with a touch of stretch is important to keep you cool and comfortable all day long. And of course, good quality material looks a lot better than its cheaper counterparts.

Tailoring can make all the difference

Don’t be afraid of a bit of tailoring. Gone are the days of stuffy and uncomfortable. Modern tailoring is as sharp and versatile as it is comfortable. As the working world starts turning towards the more casual look, so has modern tailoring. So now you can mix and match your smart, tailored blazers with a good pair of jeans and still look super smart. If you’re still not sure the tailored look is for you, why not go to a tailor yourself? That way, you can get your clothes to fit your specific shape, not just your body type.

Dress up with some accessories

If you’re not quite ready to ditch your comfy pants and favorite t-shirt for tailored clothing and slim cut jeans, why not give your outfit a little boost with some accessories instead? Invest in a nice pair of sunglasses or if you think you can pull it off, a trendy hat?

So what have we learned?

The key to looking good is finding what works for you. Yes, there are certain looks that are in style at certain times, but your best chance at looking your best is to invest in some basics that really fit your body shape. For the utmost comfort, start with good quality underwear that feels truly comfortable. After that, work on finding a pair of jeans that really suit your body type. Don’t be afraid to shop around and try on different styles. Once you find a pair of pants that really suit you, the rest of your wardrobe will come together naturally.
