The Big Names Return to Wimbledon

The All England Club in London hosts the pinnacle grass court event in the British tennis calendar; Wimbledon is a must-see for tennis fans today, as it has been for well over a century. Whilst TV coverage is good, it cannot compete with the exhilaration and prestige of being courtside as the biggest names in the sports return to SW19 from 2nd-15th July. Many of them are battling months of injury worries or have taken time off and are eager to prove themselves fit, full of stamina, passion and match win.

Tickets are selling quickly, and for tennis hospitality packages some days and experiences are selling out. To enjoy the benefits of tennis hospitality as you watch the elite, you can’t afford to hesitate; any more than the players can procrastinate during a match.

Never Dismiss A Proven Winner

Novak Djokovic has not enjoyed an easy year of tennis.

His elbow injury has plagued him and led to “shock” defeats at the hands of lower ranked players, but it would be foolish to rule him out for more titles. Just as a few years ago, the sports journalists spoke of Roger Federer as if he was a doddery old man barely clinging on to his glory days, it’s now Djokovic’s turn to re-emerge from the shadows and reclaim the limelight.

Where better to accomplish this, and claim another grand slam title than at Wimbledon 2018?

He spoke to Reuters on 2nd May and confirmed that “I have always believed in myself and that’s why I was able to make all my childhood dreams come true, but right now my confidence is not at the highest level…That’s not surprising given the lack of results and all I can do is knuckle down to hard work to restore it. A few good matches and one good tournament and it will come back.”

Sir Andy Murray faces his own challenges coming back from injury, and several of the big names have been fighting injury woes in the last year or so, Nishikori and Wawrinka among them.

Meanwhile, in the ladies’ game, Serena Williams is returning to form after her maternity leave and it’s fair to say that the top 10 rankings for the other ladies have varied almost weekly, alongside magnificent and unlikely results. Kerber, Murgurza, Kvitova, and Wozniacki will want to claim another title; all are grand slam winners, but will Serena or elder sister Venus let them?

British hopes rest with last year’s semi-finalist Johanna Konta, who has a new coach and is struggling to find form, Heather Watson and the British number 1, Kyle Edmund.

It could be anyone’s Wimbledon championship.
